Bibb County Jail Reform Plan Earns Praise, while Raising Questions About Next Steps

As Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller unveiled a sweeping six-point plan to reform the county jail, one family and civil rights advocate are calling for deeper change, saying the proposed initiatives are only a start.
Paula Platt, whose son Stephen Fossett died in the Bibb County jail, said she supports Mayor Lester Miller’s new reforms, which include expanding mental health programs and releasing nonviolent offenders on county-funded ankle monitors.
