Train Derailment Near Downtown Macon Blocks Crossing; No Injuries Reported

A Georgia Central Railway train derailed nine railcars near the Macon Yard on Lower Poplar Street around 11 a.m. Monday, temporarily blocking a crossing and leading to a cleanup and investigation, according to a statement from a railroad spokesperson.
No injuries were reported, and no hazardous materials were involved. Some of the derailed cars were empty, while others were carrying a food byproduct.
