State Proposes $82.7 Million Expansion Of East Macon Youth Detention Facilities

Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking to invest $82.7 million to expand and modernize its East Macon youth detention campus, according to the state’s 2026 budget proposal. 

The project, if approved, would add new housing, educational, and medical resources for female youth — all on a single campus. The planned expansion includes a new 98,000-square-foot facility that would add 80 beds to the existing all-girls detention site off Riggins Mill Road.
