Neel's Lofts Marks Construction Milestone with Historic Beam Signing
Thursday, May 15th, 2025
On Thursday, May 14, the downtown Macon community gathered to commemorate a significant milestone in the construction of Neel’s Lofts, a major infill construction housing project in the heart of Macon’s Central Business District. The celebration included a ceremonial beam signing, symbolizing progress on the transformative development that will bring 95 luxury lofts, two retail spaces, a restaurant, and a coworking space to Cherry and Third Streets.
“This is more than just a construction milestone—it’s a vision taking shape,” said Robbo Hatcher of H2 Capital, developer of Neel’s Lofts. “Downtown Macon is vibrant and growing, and we’re proud to contribute to that momentum by delivering a high-end residential experience that brings more people into the district to live, work, and enjoy everything our community has to offer.”
NewTown Macon President & CEO James Fritze shared remarks highlighting the impact of loft housing on downtown revitalization. “We have a goal of adding 350 new loft units to our Central Business District by 2027. With 95 of those coming from Neel’s Lofts alone, this project plays a major role in reaching that target,” said Fritze. “Our latest residential market study confirms that for every 15 new loft units, enough income is generated downtown to support a new storefront. That’s how housing fuels our local economy.”
Fritze also noted NewTown Macon’s continued commitment to downtown living and praised Hatcher and Piedmont Construction Group for their partnership on this vital development.

At the close of the event, attendees were invited to sign the final steel beam that will be installed as part of the project, leaving their mark on a project that will shape downtown Macon’s skyline, and its future, for generations.
