Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, May 27th, 2025

19 men and women stood on stage and had family members put a pin on their uniform.

19 men and women who had completed weeks of rigorous training and studying.

19 men and women who began the next phase of their lives.

19 men and women who are now…Macon-Bibb County Firefighters.

“It is my honor to stand before you and welcome you as the newest members of the Fire Department,” Training Chief Parker told them. “You’re more than ready for this challenge ahead.”

To the hundreds of friends and family gathered to celebrate the newest firefighters in the Auditorium at Central Georgia Technical College, Chief Parker made a special thanks, recognizing the sacrifices they made to support their loved ones and the sacrifices they would continue to make over the years.

“Becoming a firefighter is more than just a commitment by the recruit…it’s a commitment by the entire family,” he told them.

“We are celebrating the beginning of a calling. These brave men and women have chosen a path of service, courage, and selflessness,” Assistant Fire Chief Ron Smith told them. “Today I know without a doubt, each of you is ready to represent this org and this community. You now join a legacy of honor, commitment, and resilience.”

Each of the 19 new firefighters was called forward by name and – with their family – were welcomed on stage by Fire Chief Shane Edwards, County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett, Commissioners Brendalyn Baily and Raymond Wilder, and members of the Fire Command Staff. This was the completion of 12 weeks of rigorous training and studying, but it represented the start of something bigger for them. It signified that they were ready to join one of the best Fire Departments in the country.

“You are not just a firefighter, you are a Class One Firefighter,” Dr. Moffett told them. “WE have the Class One designation because we bring on great people like you. We thank you for choosing to be part of this family.”
