Dr. Steven Hornyak Named to New Chief Innovation Officer Role in Houston County

The Houston County Board of Education named Dr. Steven Hornyak as the new Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) for the Houston County School District during their meeting held May 13, 2025. As the CIO, Dr. Hornyak will collaborate with district and school leaders to initiate and evaluate innovative solutions, emerging technologies, and research-based approaches to enhance operations, instruction, and outcomes. He will begin this role on June 2, 2025.
Dr. Hornyak currently serves as the Director of District and School Effectiveness, a position he has held since October 2021. Over the course of his 17-year career with the Houston County School District, he has taught high school math and held multiple leadership roles including System Intervention Specialist and Coordinator of Accountability. He has been instrumental in advancing data-driven improvement, supporting school and district performance, and leading strategic initiatives that support academic success.

Innovation isn’t a department—it’s a mindset, and I look forward to partnering with our schools to shape a future-ready district.”
Dr. Hornyak earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Risk Management from the University of Georgia, a Master’s in Instructional Technology from Georgia Southern University, and a Doctorate in Leadership from Valdosta State University.
