Macon Reports a 4.0% Unemployment Rate for January 2025

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Macon recorded an unemployment rate of 4.0 percent in January, unchanged from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 3.9 percent.

"While job growth has faced challenges this month, key industries across the state continue to offer opportunities for hardworking Georgians. Even with the rise in unemployment, our mission remains clear—helping Georgia’s workers find and keep meaningful employment in every corner of our state.”

The labor force in Macon increased by 173 over the month and was up by 203 over the year, totaling 96,985.

Macon finished the month with 93,069 employed residents, up by 151 over the month and up by 47 compared to the same time last year.

Macon ended January with 99,400 jobs, down by 1,700 over the month but up by 600 over the year.

In January, initial unemployment claims in Macon increased by 40 over the month but were down by 98 compared to last year, totaling 484.
