Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, a local nonprofit that enhances the community by promoting education resources, litter prevention, recycling and beautification, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the James M. Cox Foundation to complete the renovation of Fort Hill Community Park (Eastview Park). The Foundation is the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises, parent company of Cox Communications, and named after the company’s founder.
“This generous gift from the James M. Cox Foundation Grant will allow Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful to complete the work we began in 2024 at the Fort Hill Community Park-Eastview Park,” said Asha Ellen, executive director of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful. “By beautifying this public space, it will allow us to enhance the quality of life in the community, support environmental sustainability, and contribute to the economic development of the Fort Hill Neighborhood. This park beautification initiative will focus on creating an attractive and engaging public space that will foster social interaction and community engagement.”
Cox has been a longtime supporter of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful. In addition to annual giving and sponsorships, Cox employees have assisted Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful with tree plantings, litter pick-ups and other environmental volunteerism initiatives.
“We are very grateful for the Foundation’s support and proud of our longstanding relationship with Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful and the important work they do to care for our community,” said Caryn Frey, Cox Middle Georgia market vice president. “This project aligns with our commitment to investing in our communities and ensuring care for our environment so it can be enjoyed by future generations.”
The renovation, which began in 2024, is designed to transform the park will consist of game top picnic tables, decorative trashcans, mounted park benches and exercise equipment. The upgrades will also address social determinants of health concerns such as food insecurity, healthcare and lack of physical activity.
