Georgia DOT January Awards Include Construction and Safety Contracts

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded a total of 8 projects for construction and safety improvements in January. One project was initially deferred and later awarded this month.
The first largest construction investment awarded in the January Letting, is approximately $4.2 million, for a roundabout at the intersection of State Route (SR) 74 and SR 42 in Monroe County. The second largest project, valued at around $3.7 million, includes constructing a roundabout at SR 124 at SR 60 and Sam Freeman Road (CR 17) in Jackson County, this project also includes installing an intersection video detection system (VDS). These January awarded projects, along with four additional construction projects (3 bridges and one additional roundabout), make up 82% of the total allocated funds, which amount to $18.6 million of the allotted funds.
A $3.9 million safety project, representing 18% of the allotted funds, focuses on intersection improvements, including the installation of a stop-controlled Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) intersection on SR 53 at Brownlee Mountain Road/Plainville Road in Gordon County.
The January awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2025 to $1.27 billion. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2025 began July 1, 2024.
Award Announcement list (includes rejected and or deferred projects). Bids for Design-Bid-Build projects were received on January 17, and contracts were awarded to the lowest qualified bidders on January 31.
The previously deferred project, now awarded, represents an investment of $36.5 million. The construction project will widen and reconstruct nearly 2.4 miles of additional lanes on Bell Ferry Road beginning north of Victory Drive and extending south of Port Victoria Way in Cherokee County.

Contractors and consultants, including Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs), registered small businesses and veteran-owned small businesses interested in bidding on projects or performing work must prequalify with Georgia DOT.
