United Way's Walking School Bus at L.H. Williams Elementary
Thursday, February 20th, 2025
The United Way of Central Georgia’s Community Schools United team is pleased to announce tomorrow’s Walking School Bus at L.H. Williams Elementary.
The Walking School Bus is a collaborative, community-oriented initiative that provides volunteer opportunities to Central Georgians to aid in the school district’s fight against chronic absenteeism. Simply by volunteering for a couple of hours, community members can walk children to school to ensure they are ready to receive the education they deserve.
After an enormous response to last year’s inaugural program, the Walking School Bus aims to help more children than ever get to class at L. H. Williams Elementary School in the Pleasant Hill neighborhood.
“All of the publicly available data says that the first step for a student to succeed is to get to class,” said Community Schools United Director Dr. Sundra Woodford. “The Walking School Bus is about investing in our future generations by bolstering attendance among the student populations we serve with a goal of increasing attendance and reducing absenteeism."
Joining us at tomorrow morning's Walking School Bus event will be football players from Macon’s own Macon Rampage - a newly formed professional football team that is brand new to Central Georgia. The kids are sure to be excited!
We hope you will join us tomorrow morning at L.H. Williams Elementary from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM. If you would like to interview someone on our team, I am happy to arrange an interview with Dr. Sundra Woodford.
