Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, February 19th, 2025

The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce is loading up the buses and taking Macon’s success story to the State Capitol. Macon Day will take place on Wednesday, February 19, in Atlanta, starting with recognition and speakers at the State Capitol that morning and culminating with a reception at the Georgia Freight Depot, hosted by the Chamber, Macon-Bibb County and the Bibb County State Delegation.

Macon Day begins with the early morning loading of two buses, featuring the Leadership Macon Class of 2025, program sponsors and community partners. The buses will depart Luther Williams Field at 7 am and head to the State Capitol. Leadership Macon, one of the State’s oldest community leadership programs, will be recognized on the Senate floor with a proclamation around 10 am. After that, there will be a full day of speakers featuring Georgia public officials and state policy experts discussing issues and opportunities impacting the Macon region.

One block from the State Capitol, the Macon Day Fish Fry will take place at the Georgia Freight Depot (65 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Atlanta), starting at 4:30 pm. The reception aims to showcase the best of Macon, including recent headlines like Wall Street Journal naming Macon one of the “Top 25” to visit in 2025. There will be live music with Macon’s own Dean Brown and a full concert by the Macon Music Revue (covering Little Richard, the Allman Brother Band and more). There will also be special Gold Dome musical guests, including Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, joining the band on stage.

To showcase the best of Macon, there will be a full-sized pickleball arena inside the Georgia Freight Depot and video reels and exhibit displays showing off the best of Macon, like Ocmulgee Mounds, downtown and more.

Macon’s Jim Shaw’s Seafood will fry fish on site and Nu-Way Weiners will also provide food and refreshments to guests.

“The Chamber is ready to bring Macon Day back to the State Capitol,” said Jessica Walden, president of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce. “All eyes are on Macon, and we’re here to showcase the best of our community’s success, from Macon Headlines to Macon History. Our presence in Atlanta creates opportunity to advocate for our community’s continued growth and economic vitality. All eyes are on Macon, and as Macon Day proves, Georgia succeeds alongside our community’s success.”
