Georgia Officials Lay Out Strategy for Mitigating 'Zombie Deer' Chronic Wasting Disease Spread After Positive Test

Georgia wildlife officials on Monday presented their strategy for mitigating the so-called "zombie deer" disease known as chronic wasting disease (CWD), following the first-ever positive case of the disease -- which is 100% fatal -- found in state.
The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said a deer had tested positive through routine sampling. The case was found at the Lanier-Berrien county line in south Georgia, and officials from DNR said a management area has been established for a five-mile radius around where the case was found.
