Piedmont Macon is making a major investment in the future of healthcare by funding a new clinical instructor position for Middle Georgia State University (MGA) nursing students. The partnership highlights Piedmont Macon’s commitment to strengthening the workforce of skilled healthcare professionals in central Georgia.

Piedmont Macon will fund a full-time clinical instructor position for one year, a commitment valued at $125,000. Based at Piedmont Macon, the instructor will provide hands-on clinical instruction and supervision to MGA nursing students, ensuring they gain essential real-world experience in a healthcare setting.

“The partnership between our health system and Middle Georgia State University is crucial in addressing the growing need for skilled nurses in our region,” said Stephen J. Daugherty, CEO of Piedmont Macon Medical Center and Piedmont Macon North Hospital. “Funding a clinical nursing instructor position will not only enhance the education and training of nursing students but also ensure a pipeline of highly qualified professionals to care for our community. We are committed to supporting the advancement of nursing education in Middle Georgia.”

While the new position has initial support for one year, there is hope that the partnership will continue to provide ongoing support for nursing education in the future.

“We’re thrilled to see this grant come to fruition and hope to see the partnership support nursing students and nursing graduates for years to come,” said Elizabeth Larkins, Chief Nursing Officer at Piedmont Macon.

The School of Health Sciences at Middle Georgia State University is dedicated to preparing the next generation of nursing professionals to meet the region’s healthcare needs. This collaboration with Piedmont Macon enhances MGA’s ability to provide high-quality, experiential learning opportunities for its students.

"By supporting a dedicated clinical instructor, Piedmont Macon is helping us provide unparalleled hands-on learning experiences that prepare our students to excel in their future careers,” said Dr. Tara Underwood, dean of the School of Health Sciences at MGA. “We are deeply grateful for their investment in our program and their commitment to advancing healthcare education in our community."
