Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza Featured on ABC World News Tonight

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, December 18th, 2024

The Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza was recently featured on ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, as part of their #AmericaStrong series. Visit Macon organized the feature with ABC, and a fantastic opportunity for our entire community was realized.

The feature highlighted Bryan Nichols, local business owner, Board Member for NewTown Macon, and creator of the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza. At the time of this press release, the video shared on the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza Facebook page has received over 56,000 plays.

In addition to Bryan, other representatives of Macon – Scott Mitchell, owner of Sweet Eleanor’s Divine Desserts; Lake Lambert IV and Jordan Hampel of Visit Macon; and Charles Davis, vocalist featured with the Macon Pops in the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza shows – were also featured.

In the #AmericaStrong piece, Bryan is quoted as saying he “had no idea what [the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza] would turn into.” In its eighth year, the lights have expanded to include five and a half city blocks in downtown Macon, drawing in hundreds of thousands of visitors throughout the duration of the multi-week event. There are several displays throughout the lights that serve as photo opportunities for visitors, Santa is available for free “Selfies with Santa” every weekend in December before Christmas, and carriage rides are available for purchase on the weekends via a third-party vendor. Each year, on the Saturday before Christmas (this year’s date: December 21), Santa is joined by
LIVE reindeer on Poplar Street.

In keeping with Bryan’s original vision for the lights – bringing joy to Macon – the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza is completely free and open to the public. Citizens and visitors can enjoy the lights once or all 38 nights of the 2024-2025 season.

We echo David Muir’s words as he closed the segment: “Thank you, Bryan, and we hope you get to Macon, Georgia, if you can, to see it.”
