Fort Valley State University Invites Community Partners to Apply for Funding to Support Youth Mental Health and Violence Prevention
Friday, December 20th, 2024
Fort Valley State University (FVSU) is calling on community-based partners in Peach, Bibb, Dooly, and Macon counties to join in its mission to empower young people by addressing mental health challenges and reducing incidents of personal and interpersonal violence.
Through its FVSU VALUE (Violence Avoidance Leadership Uplifting Education) Initiative, the university is offering funding opportunities for both non-profit and for-profit entities in the region. Selected organizations will implement the evidence-based Positive Action curriculum, which is built around the Thoughts-Actions-Feelings (TAF) Circle. This curriculum fosters self-esteem and positive behaviors by helping young people connect their thoughts, actions, and feelings in meaningful ways.
As we embrace the spirit of giving and focus on mental well-being, it is essential to prioritize the mental health needs of children and youth, many of whom face heightened challenges during this time of year. With the increasing concern over potential violence in schools and communities, this initiative highlights the urgent need for programs that support positive mental health outcomes for young people.
Community partners are invited to submit competitive proposals demonstrating their ability to facilitate this impactful training for a captured audience of youth. Proposals should detail how the funding will enhance the partner organization’s ability to guide young people through cognitive-behavioral exercises that promote mental wellness and positive action.
