Project Linus, Macon Chapter Celebrating 100,000 Hugs!

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, November 13th, 2024

Project Linus provides love, security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gift of new handmade blankets, referred to as "Hugs," created by volunteers known as "Blanketeers." Project Linus’ Macon chapter celebrated a significant milestone of making 100,000 "Hugs" on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Since 2004, the local Macon chapter has crafted blankets and generously donated them back to the community. The program consists of three key components: the children who receive the blankets, the Blanketeers who create them, and the donors who donate blanket materials. Numerous organizations have benefited from these blankets, including Atrium Health Levine Children's Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital, Robins Air Force Base, the Salvation Army, and many more.

Joan Anderson, the chapter leader, shared, "My favorite part of the project is seeing how excited the volunteers are when they bring in their 'Hugs.' This program not only supports children but also offers therapeutic benefits for the volunteers." She also added, "A hug isn’t a hug until it’s given to a child in need."

Volunteers and donations of any kind are always welcome. If you have received a "Hug" and would like to share a picture of your child, please email [email protected]. Our Blanketeers love seeing the full-circle connection with the recipients. To learn more about volunteering or donating, please email [email protected].
