Sleep Practitioners, a local sleep medicine practice with offices in four Middle Georgia counties, announced the addition of Dr. Charles Smith, a board-certified specialist in sleep disorder medicine, to its care team. Smith is a Virginia native with special fellowship training in treating pediatric sleep disorders.
“The people in Middle Georgia have been exceptional and have all welcomed my family and me,” says Smith, who relocated with his wife Brittany and three children to Georgia a year ago to begin working with the Sleep Practitioners team.
Smith hails originally from Buena Vista, Virginia, and attended Southern Virginia University and Midwestern University-Glendale before starting his medical education at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. Following a family medicine residency at Utah Valley Family Medicine (Provo, UT) and a sleep medicine residency at the Baylor College of Medicine, he received board certifications in both family and sleep medicine.
Smith joins Sleep Practitioners in the practice’s fourth decade. In 1987, the practice was founded by Dr. Charles Wells, a Macon neurologist who’d carried an interest in sleep medicine since his residency at Emory University. Recognized as the region’s first sleep disorders center accredited by the Americal Association of Sleep Medicine, Sleep Practitioners has grown and now offers sleep diagnostics and treatment at locations in Macon, Warner Robins, Thomaston, and Cordele.
"We've always embraced the opportunity to help as many people as possible discover the benefits of healthy, restful sleep. Bringing Dr. Smith on board is not just allowing us to help more people find a good night's sleep; it's letting our patients receive the benefit of an even broader range of knowledge and experience,” says Wells.
“We really try to put the patients first,” says Smith, who has been working with the Sleep Practitioners team and their patients for the past year in preparation for this announcement. “I love working with our staff; everyone is kind and fun to work with.”
