First Bike with Dads Event Happening Saturday
Tuesday, October 29th, 2024
Grab your bikes, Macon dads, and plan to join us Saturday, November 2, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Carolyn Crayton Park for the first Bike with Dad event. The idea for another event for dads and their children came after the success of Ice Cream with Dads in August.
“We had such a great turnout for our first event, we wanted to find another way to bring families together, while working with community partners to help them be safer,” says Macon Violence Prevention Coordinator Jeremy Grissom. “In the coming months, we hope to have more of these with a variety of different events.”
“This will be a fun and healthy way to bond with your family and learn about biking,” says Charise Stephens, U Create Macon Founder and a passionate advocate for bicycles for children. “We’ll also have a bike safety class.”
This new event is a partnership among Macon Violence Prevention, U Create Macon, Major Taylor Kidz, United Way of Central Georgia’s Parents as Teachers program, and FB4K.
The free event is open to the public, and families can bring their own bikes and helmets. If a family needs to borrow a bike for the morning, register here: https://forms.gle/oh4drh9AreKGURN5A.
There are 30 bikes available to borrow, thanks to U Create Macon.
“Events like this strengthen our community by investing in the relationships of parents and children. While children think they will just be taking a bike ride, these dads will make memories that will last a lifetime,” says United Way of Central Georgia COO Carl Tims.
“We want to give dads their flowers and encourage them to participate in new activities with their children,” adds Grissom.
