Central Georgia Technical College men’s soccer team earned the program’s first win with a 3-1 comeback victory over Denmark Technical College on Tuesday in Denmark, South Carolina. The Titans, now 1-1-1 for the season, scored three goals in the final 15 minutes of the match.

The Titans had a sluggish start, allowing multiple shots on goal in the first half. Denmark Tech capitalized on a routine shot that slipped past CGTC goalkeeper Raylin Mobley.

“I wasn’t really pleased with the immaturity we showed in the first half,” CGTC head coach Kike Fuentes said. “But something clicked late in the second half, we played better and fought to get our first win.”

The comeback began in the 78th minute when forward Efrain Moreles scored on a volley after Denmark Tech failed to clear a corner kick. Moreles then assisted on a run by Luis Lopez, whose shot deflected off the keeper for the second goal in the 84th minute. In the 86th minute, Lopez assisted Juan Nuci, who finished upper 90 for his first goal of the season after a series of passes down the right side.

“The final 15 minutes were about listening to the coaching staff and connecting passes instead of playing direct,” said Lopez, a forward and team captain. “We were a little hard-headed in the first half, and then when we listened, the goals came.”

The Titans will next play on the road against Thomas University on Sept. 12.
