The Houston County School District held a campus dedication and ribbon cutting for the new Matt Arthur Primary School on September 25. Matt Arthur Primary currently serves approximately 520 students in grades Pre-K through second.

During the event, Houston County Board of Education Chair, Helen Hughes, welcomed guests and shared her excitement on the opening of the new school. She emphasized the Board of Education’s commitment to providing students and staff with the necessary resources to enhance learning and growth.

During his remarks, Dr. Mark Scott, Superintendent of Schools, thanked the voters of Houston County for supporting the school’s construction through the passing of the 2022-2027 E-SPLOST. With an overall budget of approximately $32 million, Dr. Scott said, “It’s a privilege to be good stewards of the funding that allows our students and staff to have the very best.”

Ms. Alicia Conner, Principal of Matt Arthur Primary, thanked the Board of Education, her staff, and the parents of the Matt Arthur community for their support during the opening of the school. Guests were also entertained by the school’s chorus, the Dragon Scales, who performed the song “Welcome to our School.”

Before cutting the ribbon, Dr. Scott said, “In addition to the ribbon cutting, today’s event is a campus dedication. Today, we dedicate this campus to the current and future students and staff of Matt Arthur Primary School!”
