As part of Black Business Month (August 2024) and Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15) Macon-Bibb County’s Office of Small Business Affairs (OSBA) is looking to increase the consolidated government’s list of qualified businesses that can bid on its many different projects or provide a myriad of needed services.

“We have many opportunities for our local businesses to bid on our projects – or part of our projects – and we want to make sure they know how to and are able to make a bid,” says OSBA Director Charise Stephens. “We are Open for Business because we want to see our friends and neighbors to succeed locally. Their success is the success of our entire community.”

Areas of interest include businesses that provide services for cleaning, lawncare, construction, road paving, road striping, road repair, general contracting, and electricians. There is also a focus on increasing the number of small, local, women, and minority owned businesses that provide these services.

As part of this effort, the OSBA will help the business become a registered vendor by working with them on the process and educate them on how to find potential opportunities through the Procurement Department. With their name and services registered with the OSBA, Macon-Bibb County can more directly reach out to them when their services are needed.

“We want to be more intentional in making these opportunities available to our local businesses,” adds Stephens. “That means we need to know what they offer, and they need to be registered and ready to bid.”
