Middle Georgia State University’s Roundtable Peer Mentoring Program Helps Students Acclimate
Thursday, August 22nd, 2024
Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is proud to highlight the Roundtable Peer Mentoring program, an initiative dedicated to supporting students in their academic and personal acclimation to university life. This program connects students with experienced mentors who provide semester-long support, guiding them through campus orientation, academic resources, and effective study practices. Mentors also offer study hall sessions tailored to the needs of residential students and student athletes.
The Roundtable Peer Mentoring program is open to all MGA students, particularly those seeking academic support or navigating their first semester. The primary goals of the program include connecting students with essential resources for success, fostering a sense of belonging within the MGA community, modeling effective study habits, and promoting a positive growth mindset to help students overcome challenges. Mentors help students develop and achieve goals, stay accountable, and build a strong foundation for their academic journey.
Key activities of the mentoring program include one-to-one mentoring, hosting study halls across campus, developing and conducting workshops on good study skills, and organizing social events to encourage student engagement in campus life. These activities provide individualized support, build trust and rapport between mentors and mentees, monitor academic and personal progress, and offer problem-solving strategies. Mentors assist mentees in setting and refining goals, offering encouragement and motivation, providing constructive feedback, and connecting them with relevant resources and support services available on campus. Regular check-ins help mentees stay accountable for their commitments and encourage them to exceed their own expectations.
The Roundtable Peer Mentoring program exemplifies MGA’s commitment to student success by offering a comprehensive support system that enhances both academic achievement and personal development. Through this initiative, MGA aims to create a nurturing and empowering environment for all students, fostering a community where everyone can thrive.
