Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Macon recorded an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent in June, up six-tenths of a percent over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.1 percent.

Although this may lead to a temporary rise in unemployment, their contributions are the driving force behind our businesses’ success and the engine propelling our economy forward. From startups to major corporations, Georgia’s on the right track toward creating more jobs and building a stronger, more prosperous future for all hardworking Georgians.”

The labor force increased in Macon by 408 and ended the month with 100,863. That number went up by 2,622 when compared to June of 2023.

Macon finished the month with 96,126 employed residents. That number decreased by 244 over-the-month and rose by 1,926 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Macon ended June with 102,000 jobs. That number increased by 500 from May to June and went up by 1,900 when compared to this time last year.

In June, initial unemployment claims decreased by 6 in Macon. When you compare June 2024 claims to June 2023, claims were down by 112, totaling 472.
