Hurricane Beryl Relief Efforts Continue for CGTC Study Abroad Partners in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Staff Report

Friday, July 12th, 2024

Last week, Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) was notified of the destruction and damage caused by Hurricane Beryl as the unprecedented June storm hit the Eastern Caribbean and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the chain of islands where students and staff are welcomed twice annually for service-learning study abroad activities in health sciences.

The College community has extended its sympathy and well wishes to individuals, families, and organizations connected to the study abroad program including, Trinity School of Medicine, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, Kingstown Baptist Church, and the SVG's Ministry of Health.

"More than anything else, we want to be sensitive and supportive to the needs of our friends and partners across the islands," said JoBen Rivera-Thompson, CGTC's Director of Marketing, Public Relations, and International Outreach. "The Vincentian people and the organizations we partner with merit our graciousness and generosity, as they have been unbelievably welcoming and supportive of our study abroad initiatives in the last three years."

As recovery continues, the CGTC Foundation is seeking support from the College and community to contribute to hurricane relief efforts for St. Vincent and the Grenadines by donating to the Central Georgia Technical College Foundation. The CGTC Foundation will administer funds directly and appropriately to the needs of trusted organizations and partners on the island or to collect goods for shipment.

The Central Georgia Technical College Foundation is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that supports Central Georgia Technical College in its mission to contribute to economic and workforce development regionally and globally.
