Five Doctors Graduate Houston Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program

On Friday, June 28, five physicians graduated from the Houston Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program (FMRP). The commencement ceremony for the Class of 2024 marked the FMRP’s tenth graduation ceremony.

The graduates include Dr. Tolulope Abe, Dr. Thomas Callier IV, Dr. Jennifer Heatwole Murphy, Dr. Christian Martinez, and Dr. Joshua Silverstein.

Dr. Callier and Dr. Heatwole Murphy served as chief residents of the graduating class, and Dr. Heatwole Murphy will remain in Warner Robins as faculty for the Houston Healthcare FMRP.

  • ●  Tolulope Abe, MD, graduated from All Saints School of Medicine in Dominica and will practice as a hospitalist at Memorial Health in Savannah, Ga.

  • ●  Thomas Callier IV, MD, is a graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta and will practice outpatient medicine at Mercer Medicine located in Reynolds, Ga.

  • ●  Jennifer Heatwole Murphy, MD, graduated from Trinity University School of Medicine in St. Vincent and Grenadines. She will join the Houston Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program as faculty in Warner Robins, Ga.

  • ●  Christian Martinez, MD, is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts and Nevis. He will practice outpatient medicine at West Volusia Family and Sports Medicine in DeLand, Fla.

● Joshua Silverstein, MD, graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados, and will practice outpatient family medicine at Dedicated Senior Medical Center in Orlando, Fla.

“These dedicated professionals completed an intensive three-year family medicine residency and are now prepared to embark on their new journeys, delivering exceptional medical care to communities in the Southeast, U.S. and beyond.” says La Toya Jackson, DO, director, Houston Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program.

The commencement speech was given by Lindsey Newman-Dufresne, DO, a 2015 graduate of the Houston Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program and a member of the inaugural group of residents who began their training at Houston Healthcare - Warner Robins in 2012.

The Resident of the Year Award, selected by the FMRP faculty, nurses and staff, was given to Thomas Callier IV, MD.

The graduating physicians selected Titus Taube, MD, an internal medicine physician and part- time faculty member for the Residency Program, as Inpatient Preceptor of the Year, and family medicine physician Derrick Lane, MD, as Outpatient Preceptor of the Year.

Houston Healthcare’s Family Medicine Residency Program is coordinated through the Pavilion Family Medicine Center located in the Roy H. “Sonny” Watson Health Pavilion in Warner Robins. The program benefits the community by including access to care for patients, providing clinical training and practical skills learning for the residents, and affording enhanced coordinated care with the local teaching facility of Houston Healthcare – Warner Robins.
