Michael Mills, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a specialty in spine surgery, has joined the Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta practice in Macon.

Dr. Mills’ hire makes him the third surgeon with the practice, which is Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta’s first practice in the midstate. Daniel Grahl, M.D. and Jared Hudspeth, M.D., who are both board certified sports medicine surgeons, came on board when the practice opened on the campus of Piedmont Macon North Hospital in 2023.

“I am thrilled to join the Piedmont Orthopedic | OrthoAtlanta team in Macon and am excited to be part of the Middle Georgia community,” Dr. Mills said. “With my experience in spinal conditions and orthopedic surgical procedures, I am looking forward to contributing to the exceptional care provided at Piedmont Macon Medical Center and Piedmont Macon North Hospital. I am eager to work with such a dedicated group of professionals and serve the patients in this vibrant community.”

Dr. Mills comes to Macon after serving as a staff surgeon at Doctors Community Medical Center in Lanham, Maryland. He also has been a clinical instructor to Howard University Hospital residents.

He said he chose orthopedic spine surgery as a focus because of his “desire to solve problems and make a tangible difference in patients’ lives.”

Outside of work, Dr. Mills is involved in local health and sports initiatives. He enjoys working out at the gym, playing soccer and playing the keyboard.
