Visit Macon is excited to add a new van tour experience that will focus on African American music heritage and history in Macon, Georgia! From the iconic Otis Redding Museum and Foundation to the legendary Douglass Theater, prepare to be transported through time as we delve into the stories and places that have shaped the musical landscape of Macon.

This new tour experience is in recognition of National Black Music Month (also known as African-American Music Appreciation Month) and will debut two tours: June 21st at 1 p.m. and June 22nd at 1 p.m. Each tour will last until 3 p.m., and includes two opportunities to get off the van and tour these beloved locations in depth.

The van tour starts at the Downtown Visitor Center and guests will embark on a guided tour experience, pointing out many landmarks and places of interest to the African American sound in Macon. During the experience, participants will enjoy special perks, including a brief guided walking tour of the Otis Redding Museum and next, the Douglass Theatre, where stars like Ma Rainey, Cab Calloway, and Duke Ellington, once graced its stage.

To sweeten the experience, the Otis Redding Museum will offer a 10% discount in their store for participants who book online, while the Douglass Theater will provide complimentary popcorn for each guest after the tour!

"Our goal is to celebrate and honor the profound impact of African-American music on not just Macon’s musical heritage, but also the Nation’s," says Visitor Center Services Manager Naomi Peterson. "We're excited to share the rich history and cultural significance of these landmarks with our guests."
