Middle Georgia Honor Flight Mission #21Takes Off Saturday

4 Veterans of the Korean War, and 11 Vietnam Veterans will depart Middle Georgia Regional Airport on Contour Airlines, Saturday, May 18, at 6:30 a.m., for a full day of honors and remembrance in Washington, D.C.  This is the 21st mission for Middle Georgia Honor Flight since the non-profit organization was founded in 2018. This mission is sponsored by a generous donation from the VFW Post 6686 and Veterans’ Thrift Store, both located in Eatonton, Georgia.

Upon arrival in Washington, the honored veterans will witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. Other scheduled stops on the tour include the Air Force Memorial, Marine Corps Memorial, U.S. Navy Memorial and Museum, Military Women’s Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial,  Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial, FDR Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr.  Memorial, and Eisenhower Memorial. 

The local non-profit organization is part of a nationwide network of more than 125 hubs. After a full day of visiting the war memorials and other attractions, these Veterans will return around 9:30pm to a “Welcome Home” celebration at Middle Georgia Regional Airport. The “Welcome Home” is open to the public and parking at the airport, located off Highway 247 between Macon and Warner Robins, is free.
