Friday, May 31st, 2024

Macon Volunteer Clinic (MVC) proudly celebrated the beginning of renovations at its new facility with a 'wall breaking' ceremony held yesterday at 770 Walnut Street. This event marked a symbolic and exciting step forward in the Clinic';s journey to expand and enhance its services for the Middle Georgia Area.

Through a generous agreement with Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, Macon Volunteer Clinic will lease the building for the nominal sum of $1 per year for the next 30 years.

This partnership underscores both organizations' shared values of compassion, service, and community support. “This is more than just a renovation; it's a new chapter for Macon Volunteer Clinic,” said John McCard, Executive Director of MVC. “Our new facility will allow us to serve more patients, offer more services, and continue our mission of providing quality healthcare to those in need. We are deeply grateful to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church for their generosity and partnership, and to our community for their unwavering support.” Stroud Construction, the firm selected to manage the renovations, has begun work on the project, which includes modernizing clinical areas, adding a dental suite, enhancing administrative offices, and upgrading infrastructure. These improvements are designed to create a more comfortable and efficient environment for patients, volunteers, and staff.

In conjunction with the start of renovations, Macon Volunteer Clinic is excited to announce the launch of a capital campaign aimed at raising $2.5 million. With an initial $1 million already allocated, the campaign seeks to secure the additional funds necessary to complete the renovation project. Community members and organizations are encouraged to contribute to this vital cause.

Macon Volunteer Clinic has been a cornerstone of the Macon community for over two decades, providing essential medical, dental, and pharmaceutical services to uninsured individuals and families. The clinic's comprehensive range of services includes primary care, cancer screenings, mental health counseling, and more, all offered at no cost to eligible residents of Macon-Bibb, Twiggs, and Wilkinson counties.

The new facility is anticipated to open its doors in mid-2025, once renovations are complete. Until then, MVC will continue to operate at its original location on Rogers Avenue, ensuring uninterrupted care for its patients.
