Macon Area Habitat for Humanity Dedicates Four New Homes

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, May 9th, 2024

Macon Area Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the dedication of four new homes during a home dedication ceremony at 734 Carmen Place, located in Lynmore Estates, this Thursday, May 9th at 10:00 am. Macon Habitat and the community will join together with the new homeowners, the Roberts, Calhoun, Harris, Stephens & Simmons families, to dedicate their homes and thank the many partners that helped make these homes possible.

Two of the homes dedicated during the ceremony have been built on property cleared during the first phase of the Blight Fight and are examples of how blight can be transformed into homeownership opportunities through community partnerships. These homes were built with funding from the Macon-Bibb County American Rescue Plan Act and a matching gift from The Peyton Anderson Foundation. This partnership has already funded three completed Habitat homes and construction is underway on three more.

“This, truly, is what it means to be part of Team Macon-Bibb: all of us working together to help strengthen families and neighborhoods in any way we can,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “We are welcoming home four families, and that is the ultimate goal of our Blight Fight, to remove that which is dangerous and ugly and replace it with something safe and beautiful.”

Building a Habitat home is not possible without the hard work and dedication of our future Habitat homeowners, volunteers, and community partners. These homes were built with love and in collaboration with the following generous partners: Macon-Bibb County American Rescue Plan Act Funding, The Peyton Anderson Foundation, Macon-Bibb County Economic and Community Development Department HOME Investment Partnership Program, LE Schwartz & Sons, GAF, and all of our 2024 Women Build teams.

“We are so thankful for the many partners and volunteers who helped these families achieve their dreams of homeownership,” said Ivey Hall, Macon Habitat Executive Director. “The need for affordable homeownership opportunities is at an all-time high and the Macon-Bibb County community has stepped up to help make sure every family has a place to call home.”

Members of the community and the press are invited to join us for the dedication.
