Habitat for Humanity Milledgeville-Baldwin County & DCA Offer Homeownership Opportunities

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, May 28th, 2024

Habitat for Humanity (HFH) of Milledgeville-Baldwin County is the recipient of a $600,000 Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) Grant to construct four (4) single-family housing units within Baldwin County. These homes will be built by HFH and then sold to qualifying low- and moderate-income persons through the Habitat Model. Construction is scheduled to start this summer. The application process is open from now until June 3rd. For more information on the application process please visit milledgevillehabitat.org/homeownership.

MBCHFH completed their last home in 2019 and new construction has been stalled since then due in large part to the impact of the pandemic. In partnership with Macon Area Habitat for Humanity the new construction program is back and the homeowner selection process is underway. With the support of the City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County Government leaders, and the formation of a new Land Bank Authority, some of the land used for the homes will be donated to the affiliate as local leaders work to return once blighted property back to the hands of homeowners.

As work begins on these new homes, there will be many opportunities for the community to volunteer with Habitat. For more information about volunteer opportunities visit www.milledgevillehabitat.org.
