Public Service Commissioners Echols & Shaw Wrap Up Glass Recycling Contest

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, April 9th, 2024

-Atlanta, Georgia--Georgia Public Service Commissioners Tim Echols and Jason Shaw are wrapping up their glass recycling contest for schools across Georgia. Echols and Shaw are promoting glass recycling because it is infinitely recyclable.

“Putting glass into landfills is a waste of space,” said Echols. “We are hoping our contest spurs leaders across the state to restart curbside recycling of glass.”

Shaw and Echols are working with Arglass, a Valdosta based glass furnace to reuse the glass.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 11 schools with first place getting $2500.

“We want to thank Georgia Natural Gas, United Consulting, Coke and MHC Kenworth for their help with this,” said Shaw. “Many tons of glass was diverted from our landfills.”

Echols personally picked up the glass from participating schools in his “Herbie” VW SUV and trailer.

The cash prizes will be given on April 19, 2024 at Zoo Atlanta.

Commissioner Shaw is currently the Chair of the Commission while Commissioner Echols serves as Vice-chair. More information on Commissioner Echols and Shaw is available on the Georgia Public Service Commission website,
