Mr. Brendan O’Kane, incoming president of Mount de Sales Academy, announced the appointment of Mrs. Kaylee Gonzalez Freeman as the Academy’s middle school division head, effective July 1.
Mrs. Freeman holds a master's degree in elementary education from Wesleyan College. She currently serves as the grammar school drama teacher at the Academy of Classical Education, where she also directs middle and high school theatrical performances. Additionally, Freeman previously served as the lead teacher for St. Joseph’s Catholic School’s three-year-old pre- kindergarten program.
Freeman is a 2010 graduate of Mount de Sales. As a student, she served as a Cavalier Ambassador, a member of the Thespian Society, and performed in the One Act plays and musicals.
“Mrs. Freeman is a proud Cavalier, a passionate and faith-filled educator, and an inspirational leader,” noted O’Kane. “She is someone who inspires joy in everyone she meets.”
“It is often said that ‘home is where the heart is.’ Since seventh grade, my heart has called Mount de Sales home,” said Freeman. “Mount de Sales is more than a school; it is a family. I owe my love of education, my determination for success, my resilience in life, and my aspiration for true connections with others to the education I received at MDS. Together with Cavalier students and parents, I look forward to celebrating our faith, fellowship, and family while leading Mount de Sales’ middle school into the next 150 years of incredible education.”
Freeman will replace Dr. Mike Franklin who is retiring after three years as the middle school
division head and 40 years in public and private education.
“We are so grateful for Dr. Franklin and his servant-leadership these past few years. I am confident that the future of Mount de Sales Academy is filled with hope with Mrs. Gonzalez Freeman as the leader of our middle school,” said O’Kane.
