Black History Month Program Today
Friday, February 23rd, 2024
The Frank Johnson Recreation Center (2227 Mercer University Drive) – along with the Middle Georgia Regional Library, Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority, and Mahogany Principle – will hold its annual Black History Month program on Friday, February 23, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Maintaining Hope Through the Vote” and will highlight the importance of voting as a way of honoring the people that made it possible.
“The Recreation Department’s mission is building healthy communities through people, parks, and programs, so this event is a great addition to our non-traditional recreation programs,” says Center Director Clarence Thomas. “We want people to know the importance of voting and how it can increase their quality of life.”
The event is free and open to all people, and it will feature a Literacy Lab (book giveaways and storytelling), Black History Trivia for prizes, community speakers, free refreshments, a song and mini-play by the Center’s Children of Excellence, vendors, and more.
