River Edge Behavioral Health Announces Demolition Ceremony for New Center
Tuesday, January 30th, 2024
River Edge Behavioral Health is pleased to announce a demolition ceremony for the old Riverside Plaza complex to make way for the construction of a new River Edge Behavioral Health Center, which will consist of an outpatient clinic and administrative offices. The ceremony will commence at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 7th at 2770 Riverside Drive Macon, Georgia 31204 (located behind the new QuikTrip).
The center will offer comprehensive adult behavioral health outpatient and substance use disorder services, as well as child and adolescent services.
The plaza currently encompasses 74,000 square feet of buildings on six acres that will be systematically demolished over the coming months. Constructed in 1967, the plaza was a major retail center serving North Macon and featured the original freestanding Natalia's Restaurant, a public library and a United States Post Office.
The new River Edge Behavioral Health Center will be visible from Riverside Drive and is located along a bus line, assuring ease of access to evidence-based behavioral health services in Central Georgia.
“The demolition of Riverside Plaza and the construction of a new behavioral health center marks a milestone in the redevelopment of Riverside Drive,” said River Edge CEO Cass Hatcher.
The demolition contract has been awarded to Casteel Trucking. Concrete debris and materials will be crushed and utilized as part of the new building site to reduce waste. Demolition is scheduled to be completed in July of 2024.
Construction on the new behavioral health center, currently under design by Azar + Walsh Architects, LLC, is scheduled to start September of 2024 with an estimated completion of December of 2025.
The Macon-Bibb community is invited to the demolition ceremony. Refreshments will be available.
