Macon Unemployment Rate Drops Heading into the New Year

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Macon recorded an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent in November, down five-tenths of a percent over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 3.2 percent.
 
“As we prepare to ring in a new year, Georgia’s future is bright, said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “With holiday shopping and retail kicking back up, Georgia’s unemployment rates are dropping faster than holiday deals. Coupled with a soaring job market and a workforce ready to take on limitless opportunities, Georgia is well on the road to success.”

The labor force decreased in Macon by 31 and ended the month with 101,019. That number went up by 1,899 when compared to November of 2022.

Macon finished the month with 97,599 employed residents. That number increased by 452 over-the-month and rose by 1,675 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Macon ended November with 104,300 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 700 from October to November and rose by 1,800 when compared to this time last year.

In November, initial unemployment claims decreased by 103 (-23%) in Macon. When you compare November 2023 claims to November 2022, claims were down by 139 (-29%).
