CGTC Adds Football and Soccer to 2024 Intercollegiate Sports Offering
Thursday, January 11th, 2024
The Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Athletics Department is excited to announce the addition of football and men’s & women’s soccer to its intercollegiate athletics program. Both football and soccer will be sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), with games scheduled to begin in the Fall 2024 season.
Each program is actively recruiting athletes for the programs under head football coach, Donald Hitson, and head soccer coach, Enrique Fuentes, respectively.
“The addition of these athletic offerings further demonstrates our continued commitment to student engagement and well-being.” said CGTC president Dr. Ivan Allen. “More than anything, we look forward to new student-athletes on campus and supporting their academic and athletics endeavors.”
In Fall 2023, CGTC started its club football program through the National Club Football Association (NCFA) and garnered an impressive 4-1 record in its inaugural season. In their sophomore season, the Titans have made an indelible mark in the NCFA, touting an astounding 13-0 record and defeating The Ohio State University in the NCFA Championship Bowl to earn the National Club Football Championship.
In September 2023, the Titans made history as they marched to victory in the first athletic event held on the College’s Atrium Health Field at the Roy H. “Sonny” Watson Wellness Complex. The state-of-the-art complex touts an impressive regulation size turf football/soccer field and track surface.
“Our athletics program is growing and changing with great excitement for what is ahead,” said Cathy Johnson, the College’s newly appointed executive director of athletics and compliance. “The vision and development of these programs is a testament to the incredible College-wide and community support for our Titans. We are grateful to provide student-athletes the opportunity to receive a high-quality education and have a successful collegiate athletic career right here in central Georgia.”
