Three general surgeons, including two who are well known in the Middle Georgia medical community, have joined the practice of Piedmont Physicians Surgical Specialists Macon.

Earl N. Mullis Jr., M.D., and John T. Williams IV, M.D., who have been performing surgeries for years at Piedmont Macon Medical Center, joined the Piedmont practice Nov. 1, while Jamaal Crawford, M.D., who previously was a general surgery resident in Atlanta, joined the practice Nov. 13.

Dr. Mullis and Dr. Williams have more than 50 years of surgical experience between them and have been mainstays at Piedmont Macon for several years. Before joining the Piedmont practice, both surgeons had been in practice together at Macon Surgical Associates since the 1990s.

Since 2018, Dr. Crawford has been a general surgery resident at Atlanta Medical Center and received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, where he was a research advisor and teaching assistant. Dr. Crawford specializes in general surgery, gallbladder disease, breast disease, appendicitis and hernia repair.

Dr. Mullis received his medical degree from Mercer University and additionally holds a bachelor’s degree of pharmacy from the University of Georgia. He specializes in gallbladder and biliary surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery, anti-reflux surgery, hernia repair, breast disease, thyroid disease and soft tissue tumors.

Attaining his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Williams has extensive experience in general and trauma surgery, specializing in gastroesophageal reflux disease, foregut surgery and robotic hernia surgery.

Gary Bernstein, M.D., the Chief Medical Officer at Piedmont Macon, said he’s pleased to see the three surgeons become part of the Piedmont family.

Piedmont Physicians Surgical Specialists Macon is located at 380 Hospital Drive, Suite 320 on the Piedmont Macon Medical Center campus. Dr. Mullis, Dr. Williams and Dr. Crawford are all taking new patients, and most major insurance plans are accepted.
