Macon-Bibb Commission to Vote on $1 Million Budget Transfer for Jail Repairs Amid Inmate Escape Concerns

The Macon-Bibb County Commission will soon vote on an ordinance to transfer $1 million within the Sheriff's Office budget to fund additional repairs and improvements at the county jail.

The Macon-Bibb jail has faced overcrowding and infrastructure challenges for years. Concerns about the jail's condition were amplified over the last month following the escape of four inmates. Two have since been captured, but two others, Joey Fournier and Johnifer Barnwell, remain on the run. Chavis Stokes was caught in Macon County while Marc Anderson was caught in Buckhead. County leaders are hoping these additional repairs can improve conditions at the outdated facility.
