Macon-Bibb County Land Bank Authority Leader Named

Everett Verner, Executive Director of the Land Bank Authority was named the inaugural National Land Bank Network’s Emerging Leader of 2023 in recognition of his innovative work in Macon-Bibb County. NLBN plans to present this award annually to one person doing outstanding work in a member organization. 

“I am so glad to see Everett be recognized for the work he is doing in our community. He is a visionary who is not afraid to get his hands dirty. He has dedicated his career to improving Macon and has built an outstanding team at the Land Bank. We are truly fortunate to have him,” said Tom Ellington, Board Chair for the Land Bank Authority. 

“The National Land Bank Network is honored to recognize Everett Bibb with our Emerging Leader Award,” said Brian Larkin, Director of the National Land Bank Network at the Center for Community Progress. “Thanks to Everett's diligent leadership, the Macon-Bibb Land Bank is helping advance our field with innovative strategies and serving as a valued partner for land banks all throughout the state of Georgia.”

“I am terribly humbled to receive this award, but it really belongs to my Board of Directors, my mentor Alison Goldey, my staff Khaia Gibson and Michael Bill, and my family who have taken on the monumental task of hiding my flaws enough to earn this honor. So, thank you to the National Land Bank Network and the Center for Community Progress for the recognition of our work, I am very proud to receive the inaugural Emerging Leader Award,” said Verner.

The Macon-Bibb County Land Bank Authority has the mission of acquiring vacant, blighted and tax-delinquent property and returning it to productive use. It is committed to improving the physical condition of neighborhoods in Macon as well as access to affordable housing. It works with several partners in the community, including Habitat for Humanity, River Edge Behavioral Health, Historic Macon, Historic Hills and Heights, Macon Housing Authority, and the Macon-Bibb County Affordable Housing Fund.
