Washington Memorial Library is beyond excited to announce the celebration of its 100th birthday.
Established in 1923, Washington Memorial Library has been a cherished part of Macon's cultural heritage, fostering creativity, nurturing book lovers, and championing lifelong learning.
To honor this remarkable milestone, the library is throwing a grand 100th birthday bash and everyone is invited to be a part of it! On Nov. 9 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Washington Memorial Library, get ready for an incredible evening filled with family-friendly fun and festivities!

Live Music by Green Grass Green: Let's dance and groove to the lively beats of Green Grass Green, a kid-friendly band that's sure to keep the celebration in full swing!

Marathon Story Time on the Children's Floor: Gather 'round for an enchanting storytelling session on the Children's Floor, promising smiles and giggles for the little ones.

Face Painting: Embrace your inner artist and get your face painted with delightful designs, adding a splash of color to the celebrations.

Special Guest Appearances: Prepare for some surprise visits from special guests like Pete the Cat, bringing extra excitement to the party.
“100 years ago, our community recognized the importance of literacy and access to information,” says Jennifer Lautzenheiser, Director of Libraries for Middle Georgia Regional Library. “ We are so proud to continue this commitment still today and we are thankful to our sponsors and activity partners who are joining us to kick off this celebration.”
The library has planned monthly themed events and book displays that celebrate literacy and community and a Books & Brews Reading Challenge in which features a curated list of books available on the Beanstack App as well as a list of participating businesses with library-themed beverages to try.
The grand finale of the year’s celebrations will be the "Parade of Characters" block party in October 2024. Everyone is invited to dress up as their favorite literary characters and join in for a lively procession of creative fun!
