Democratic Candidate for Georgia House of Representatives, District 143, and distinguished community activist Tangie Herring announced today that she is one of three finalists selected to receive the “Founders Rising Star” award as part of the Rising in Community Excellence (RICE) Award program. RICE awards are given to individuals who demonstrate keen awareness about community needs and step into the fray, lending a hand and creating positive change.

“This nomination is an incredible honor,” said Herring. “I have had the privilege of giving back to my community for decades as a teacher, youth advocate and mentor. I share this honor with dozens of nominees who demonstrate dedication to the betterment of the lives around us. Win or lose, sharing the room with them is recognition enough.” 

RICE Award nominees are innovative and charitable visionaries who recognize the importance of their presence and contribution to the greater Atlanta community and beyond. Nominees were selected by a panel of industry professionals, community leaders and everyday citizens. Each category recognizes a community leader who has used their position to develop or implement programs that have changed the face of our communities.

The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 23, at 5:00 p.m. at the Morrow Center at 1180 Southlake Circle, Morrow, GA 30260.
