On Saturday, September 16, the Indigo Girls brought their internationally-acclaimed music to The Grand Opera House in the heart of downtown Macon. Across a setlist which spanned every decade of their career, the Indigo Girls performed a show which inspired and uplifted attendees in support of making Ocmulgee Mounds the nation’s next national park.
“I have been a fan of the Indigo Girls since long before they agreed to join us for this special evening,” said Seth Clark, ONPPI’s Executive Director. “This performance, and the packed house in attendance to hear it, only shows how much passion there is for this initiative from both the people of Macon and across the country. When we think back to that night, I believe it will be seen as a watershed moment for our efforts.”
All proceeds from the event benefit efforts to make Ocmulgee Mounds Georgia’s first National Park and Preserve. Jontavius Willis, a Grammy-nominated Blues musician and songwriter with deep roots in Georgia, opened the concert with an incredible set of original songs as well as a few Blues classics.
“This concert capped off a historic weekend for our initiative,” said Tracie Revis, ONPPI’s Director of Advocacy. “Between the concert, the Fire Starters film festival, and the Omculgee to Okmulgee art show, the passion for this initiative has reached a fever pitch. There is a symphony of voices singing in unison on behalf of the Ocmulgee National Park and Preserve Initiative and we are thrilled to now add the Indigo Girls to that chorus.”
