River Edge Behavioral Health Announces Groundbreaking for a New Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Crisis Stabilization Diagnostic Center (CSDC) in Macon

Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and River Edge Behavioral Health (River Edge) are pleased to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Crisis Stabilization Diagnostic Center (CSDC) within the Macon downtown corridor to serve adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The ceremony will commence at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 30th at 1241 Rev. J. L. Mills Senior Way.
The project is a collaboration between DBHDD, River Edge, and Mercer University School of Medicine and will be constructed on leased property provided by Macon-Bibb County. The project architect is Azar + Walsh Architects with Parrish Construction Group serving as the construction manager.
The 34,000 square foot CSDC will be the first of its kind in the state of Georgia and will offer a broad range of healthcare services including behavioral health assessments, dentistry, psychiatry, neurology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, ophthalmology and other specialized services. The building is expected to open in January 2025.
Macon Mayor Lester Miller and DBHDD Commissioner Kevin Tanner will speak along with representatives from Azar + Walsh Architects, Parrish Construction Group and River Edge. Rev. Dr. Stephen Summerow, Senior Pastor with Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, will open the ceremony with an invocation.

This wonderful new facility will be attractively designed with a system of care that integrates acute healthcare with long-term services and supports by developing IDD medicine as a specialty to provide people with IDD a set of preventative health supports,” said River Edge CEO Cass Hatcher.
