STARBASE Robins STEM Adventure Summer Academies: STEMpowered Girls and Super STEM Boys
Thursday, July 6th, 2023
STARBASE ROBINS STEM Adventure Summer Academy is an 8-day summer program that begins on Tuesday, June 20, and runs through Friday, June 30, 2023. STEMpowered Girls and Super STEM Boys Summer Academies allow rising 6th-8th grade students the skills and concepts to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Students will problem-solve, build confidence in STEM applications, and explore STEM careers. STARBASE ROBINS STEM Adventure Summer Academy is more than a summer camp. It’s a year-long adventure with Saturday STEM Sparks in the fall of October 2023 and the Spring of March 2024.
Vet for a Day Program: Students attending STARBASE ROBINS STEMpowered Girls and Super STEM Boys Summer Academies will participate in Critter Fixers: Vet for a Day Program on Wednesday, June 28, from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm in the Century of Flight Hangar at the Museum of Aviation. Drs. Terrence Ferguson and Vernard Hodges created the Vet for a Day Program to expose students to the world of veterinary medicine. The Vet for a Day Program is a fun-filled, informative day to share information about the veterinary profession. Drs. Ferguson and Hodges believe that if students are introduced to the veterinary profession early, they will be more likely to pursue that career path.
Young Entrepreneur Pitch Challenge: The Young Entrepreneur Pitch Challenge is a simple set of activities that help students learn creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and presentation skills. Students are paired in groups to create an idea that solves a problem in their community. The proposed idea can be a: product, a service, a social enterprise, or a technology business. A guest speaker from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will be onsite on Thursday, June 29, at 10:00 am to discuss the basics of Intellectual Property with the students. On Friday, June 30, at 1:30 pm at the Museum of Aviation in the Century of Flight Hangar building in STARBASE ROBINS Classroom Three (SB3), the groups will present their pitches to a panel of judges in a Shark Tank style presentation. Each group’s pitches will be judged on creativity, persuasiveness, and quality. The winner of our pitch challenge will be encouraged to enter the Young Entrepreneur Institute Pitch Challenge for a chance to win a prize.
