Downtown Macon Restaurants Compete in Annual French Fry Fight
Tuesday, July 11th, 2023
Downtown Macon restaurants are competing for the title of best fries during the Downtown Macon French Fry Fight on Thursday, July 13 in honor of National Fry Day. Twenty restaurants have developed creative culinary takes on the classic side.
NewTown’s Main Street Macon board developed the Downtown Macon French Fry to drive more foot traffic downtown during the summer, which tends to be a slower season for the downtown area. NewTown regularly organizes collaborative events to generate excitement in the community and encourage supporting locally owned and operated businesses. The French Fry Fight offers restaurants an opportunity to take a side dish they already have on their menu and turn it into an entrée as a one-time offering.
“The Main Street Macon board is responsible for many of the fun, creative, and collaborative events that happen downtown throughout the year,” said Emily Hopkins, Director of Place and Main Street Macon Manager at NewTown Macon. “Events like the French Fry Fight help show off downtown’s best assets -our locally owned and operated businesses.”
Participating restaurants will serve their fry special on Thursday, July 13 at their place of business. Downtown-goers can vote for their favorite special online at surveymonkey.com/r/2023FryFight. The restaurant with the most votes will win the coveted Super Spud trophy and bragging rights.
Participating restaurants include Baldino’s, Bearfoot Tavern, Biddy’s, Cashman’s Pub, Churchill’s on Cherry, Fall Line Brewing Co., Felicia’s Cake Factory, H&H, Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails, La Bella Morelia, Loom, Macon Water Ice, Ocmulgee Brewpub, Oliver’s Corner Bistro, Parish on Cherry, Pearl Passional Cuisine & Cocktails, Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen, the Rookery, Satterfield’s, and VIBEZ.
“Living in a world where it seems like we are constantly hearing bad things, events such as the French Fry Fight serve as a reminder to embrace the whimsical and let loose,” said Felicia Howard, chair of the Main Street Events Committee and owner of Felicia’s Cake Factory. “The French Fry Fight helps bring people together, creating memories and a sense of community.”
