Transform Your Block with Play Streets Macon, a New Initiative by Bike Walk Macon

Calling all neighbors! Get ready to be a part of Play Streets Macon, an exciting community-driven initiative by Bike Walk Macon. Bike Walk Macon invites residents to shape their streets into vibrant spaces of play, connection, and community. Inspired by the success of Open Streets Macon, Play Streets Macon is an opportunity for neighbors to come together, agreeing to open their streets for play and community while closing them to through traffic.
"Play Streets Macon provides an exciting opportunity for neighbors to reclaim public spaces within their neighborhoods for a day of family-friendly fun," says Rachel Umana, Executive Director of Bike Walk Macon. Play Streets will offer a wide range of activities, including sidewalk chalk art, bicycling, skating, hopscotch, ball games, and more. Additionally, community organizations can contribute to the atmosphere by hosting interactive workshops, providing live music and entertainment, facilitating social connections among neighbors.

Four streets will be selected to host Play Streets Macon this fall, with plans to expand the program in 2024. Bike Walk Macon encourages families and community organizations to collaborate and create an unforgettable Play Streets experience together. Selected streets will receive guidance, coordination, and support from Bike Walk Macon, including funding for permits, traffic control, outreach materials, programming, play materials, and signage.
