On Tuesday, June 6, at 10:00 a.m., Macon-Bibb County and partners will officially open the Frankie Everett Lewis Park at 834 Lynmore Avenue. The new Park was made possible thanks to the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and funds set aside to fight blight.

The Park was named for Ms. Lewis for her leadership and contributions to the Macon-Bibb County community for more than 30 years. It includes a picnic pavilion, track, playground, open lawn, basketball courts, walking track, landscaping, parking, and more.

“She had the power of giving, and not just monetary. She gave of herself in all aspects of her life,” Antonio Lewis-Ross said of his mother at the Groundbreaking for the Park.

“It’s a great day in Macon-Bibb when we can first remove blight for a neighborhood and then create something that can strengthen the community,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “This is a great addition here, and we are looking forward to continuing to focus on this area as we create the Cliffview Lake Park, remove more blight, and more.”

To make way for the Park, three blighted and dangerous structures at 782, 806, and 818 Lynmore Avenue were demolished. The Park was paid for with $826,000 in SPLOST funds and was built by Stafford Builders and Consultants.
