Red Cross Opens a Third Shelter in Macon, Damage Assessment Begins

With the skies finally clearing, the American Red Cross of Georgia, with assistance from community partners, has opened a third shelter in Macon. Additionally, Damage Assessment teams have started their work and volunteers have begun to distribute emergency supplies and meals to people in need. By the end of this evening, approximately 300 meals will have been handed out.


The growing list of areas significantly impacted by storms are: Troup, Baldwin, and Bibb counties. Several neighboring counties have also reported scattered damage.


Additionally, the American Red Cross is working alongside Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Governor Brian Kemp’s office, county emergency officials, and numerous community partners to help to keep people impacted by these storms safe.

The Red Cross will continue to work with clients to help them through their next steps, provide additional recovery resources, and help them to acclimate to their new normal.
