Magnolia Soap Box Derby Prepares for 2023 Race
Monday, April 3rd, 2023
The 13th annual Magnolia Soap Box Derby will be hosted on Saturday, April 8th, 2023 in downtown Macon. The race will take place on Magnolia Street by Washington Park.
The derby car racing will begin at 10:30 am and last until about 4 pm. Racing takes place in three classes: Gravity Racing Challenge, Shadetree & Professional.
The Magnolia Soap Box Derby is one of the nation’s largest soap box racing events, attracting around 5,000 visitors annually.
In addition to derby racing, the event features food trucks, a live DJ, performances by local arts organizations Hayiya Dance and Streetline, & STEAM educational demos. There is also a Big Wheel Race for kids aged 5-10 (this is free – parents sign their kids up the day of the event).
The STEAM learning zone is revamped this year with new, fun learning modules for youth to learn about the basics of downhill racing – acceleration, gravity, force, etc. Participating kids can take their own Hot Wheels car home! This will also be the second year of “Art in the Park” where the community is asked and encouraged to participate in painting a live Mural Wall
Media are cordially invited to cover the 13th annual Magnolia Soap Box Derby.
